Why We Built Children’s Houses, Not Clinics

At Autism From The Start, we know that for children with autism, trust is everything. That’s why our first priority is creating an environment that feels safe, welcoming, and familiar.

We strive to make our locations feel less like a school and more like a second home. Borrowing a term from Montessori, we call our buildings “Children’s Houses” because they are the domain of the child.

From Dr. Michelle’s Vision to Reality Guided by Dr. Michelle’s background in psychology and neuropsychology, we have curated two locations that perfectly align with our values:

  1. Lenexa: Our original historic home, recently renovated and expanded.

  2. Shawnee: A repurposed elementary school that we transformed to match the warm, home-like feel of our Lenexa location.

What makes our houses special? Our rooms aren't conventional classrooms. You won't just see kids at desks; you'll see them on the floor, engaging with staff and learning through play.

Every location features:

  • ☀️ Natural Atmosphere: Large, open areas filled with natural light.

  • 🏡 Home Design: Living rooms, kitchens, patios, and backyards to practice life skills.

  • 🌿 Sensory Play: Outdoor classrooms, water tables, mud kitchens, and native Kansas gardens.

  • ❤️ The Team: Highly trained staff who bring energy and positivity to every session.

  • 🚗 Convenience: Easy access right off the highway.

Nothing at Autism From The Start is "conventional," yet we are uniquely positioned to provide the best care to prepare your child for the real world.
